Summary: 

We are looking to hire a hard-working and skilled Metal Work Fitter to fabricate, fit, and assemble the structural components of various mechanical systems.  Your responsibilities include keeping accurate records of all maintenance work done, repairing malfunctioning mechanical systems, and evening out any rough spots on the fabricated components using grinders, hand files, and scrapers. You should also be able to collaborate with other Metal Work Fitters on large-scale projects. 

To be successful as a Metal Work Fitter, you should be detail-oriented, focused, and adept at interpreting blueprints.  Ultimately, an exceptional Metal Work Fitter should be able to safely use hand and power tools as well as demonstrate excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. 

The primary responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Utilize aluminum CNC saw, hydraulic shear, drill press, break press & other metalwork tools to cut structural components as needed. 
  • Lay-out, position, secure & assembly aluminum metalwork products in accordance with production drawings & standard work instructions. 
  • Construct structural components from raw aluminum material including extrusion & plate aluminum. 
  • Using basic hand tool to form structural components. 
  • Inspect & measure fabricated components to ensure that they are within the specification provided in the drawings. 
  • Cut & prepare metalwork components to be consumed as volume stock. 
  • Adhere to all Company Safety related policies, procedures, & training; and all work-site safety rules and regulations. 
  • Actively identifying continuous improvement opportunities to increase production efficiency & safety. 
  • Analyzing the blueprints for mechanical systems to determine the specifications of the components to be constructed. 
  • Constructing structural components from raw materials. 
  • Using welding equipment to fuse structural components. 
  • Inspecting fabricated components to ensure that they are the correct size. 
  • Utilizing shears, power saws, cutting torches, and chipper knives to cut structural components as needed. 
  • Creating a suitable maintenance schedule and performing system maintenance accordingly. 
  • Replacing damaged or defective structural components as needed. 
  • Other additional responsibilities and duties as required. 

Requirements / Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Welding certification is an asset. 
  • Fall Arrest and Scissor lift training is an asset. 

Work Experience: 

  • Proven experience working in metalwork, metal fitting or mechanical assembly. 
  • Manufacturing experience is an asset.

  • Sound knowledge of building codes. 
  • The ability to use hand and power tools, including drills, drill press, impact driver, glue gun & tape measure.

  • The ability to concentrate for extended periods. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Must be a self-starter and the ability to work independently. 
  • Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills. 
  • Exceptional welding and mechanical skills. 
  • Ability to work overtime hours when required.
