The Opportunity:

Job Title: Instructor - Workplace Language Training (WLT) Skilled Trades Exploration
Department: Language Training and Settlement Services (LTSS)
Contract Length: October 14, 2024 to August 31, 2025 3 sessions of 8 weeks each plus curriculum development / admin
Location: Virtual (6 weeks per cohort) / on site in Burlington (2 weeks per cohort)
Schedule: 27.5 hours/week, Monday – Friday + curriculum development /admin hours
  • Cohort 1: Oct 28 – Dec 20, 2024
  • Cohort 2: Jan 27 – March 22, 2025
  • Cohort 3: May 26 – July 18, 2025

Job Summary:
As the language instructor you will teach program participants sector specific language in the skilled trades (construction, manufacturing and electrical) and exploration of the Ontario construction and manufacturing labour market. You will also help participants develop insight into the Canadian workplace culture, employer expectations, and improve overall communication skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing).

These are your responsibilities:
  • Teach in-person and online classes according to program expectations
  • Provide participants one-on-one consultation when needed
  • Attend in-person classes to support students with language while they do hands on training
  • Assist in program curriculum design and updates
  • Perform administrative tasks, including class attendance and monthly narrative reports

What you need to bring to this job:
  • Familiar with Canadian Language Benchmarks
  • TESL Ontario certified as asset
  • Post-secondary education/training in the construction field an asset
  • Aware of current market and workplace trends, especially as related to internationally trained professionals in the construction and manufacturing industry
  • Demonstrated ability to provide an effective, stimulating learning environment for adults
  • Culturally sensitive; experience with clients from a diverse background
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent knowledge current software applications such Zoom, Microsoft Suite, Google apps
