Job Title: Employment Settlement Specialist
Location: Milton
Schedule: Full-time (35 hours per week)
Hours of Work: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm (on site), Wednesday 11:00 am – 7:00 pm (virtual)
Reports To: Service Delivery Coordinator
Pay Rate: $32.31 per hour OR $35.60 per hour with CDP certificate
The Employment Settlement Specialist provides one-to-one guidance and counselling to newcomer clients on topics related to settlement, job search, job retention, and career exploration. They effectively and efficiently move clients toward short-term and long-term employment goals and establish individual settlement and employment action plans.
These are your responsibilities:
- Work with newcomer clients accessing Settlement and Employment Services, meeting targets set by the Funders and the Coordinators.
- Provide non-interventional, culturally sensitive counselling and support to clients, while maintaining professional boundaries and scope of practice.
- Perform needs assessments and utilize Common Assessment Tools, Motivational Interviewing and Solution-Focused counselling models to create a personalized Settlement and Employment Action Plan that addresses life stabilization requirements, enhances labour market knowledge, identifies community resources, builds skills, and facilitates the attainment of sustainable employment.
- Assist clients with specific employment and settlement needs by providing the latest and relevant resources related to economic, social, cultural, educational, health, recreational, and other services that contribute to the client's initial and ongoing settlement.
- Conduct interview preparation and mock interview sessions with clients customizing each session to address the client’s unique needs and challenges and the specific job opportunity.
- Provide one-on-one support for job matching and advocate for clients to assist them in securing interviews and employment, working closely with the workforce development specialists.
- Input data into the appropriate database, maintain required program records and submit reports as requested by the coordinator.
- Complete narratives, success stories and statistical reporting as required of client services with accuracy and in a timely manner.
- Provide clients with adequate resources to aid in their transition, such as referrals for crisis intervention, counselling services, or translation services.
- Provide support, referrals, interpretation and guidance to clients researching and walking them through the completion of documents such as government applications, Child Tax Benefit forms and other forms and documentation related to immigration applications.
- Monitor client progress and follow up with clients if needed to address any updates to their employment and settlement action plan.
- Deliver case management services while ensuring the maintenance of digital/ physical records in a confidential manner.
- Remain current on settlement resources, labor market trends, and community and government services.
- Attend and participate in staff, department, and other meetings as required.
- At times, work a flexible schedule to meet with clients at different Centre for Skills sites, approved itinerant locations, and evening hours.
- Contribute to creating and maintaining a positive and supportive work environment.
What you need to bring to this job:
- 2+ years related experience in employment services or settlement services.
- Post-secondary education in human services, social work or a related field.
- Experience working with newcomers from culturally and socio-economically diverse backgrounds including those that are youth, in receipt of OW/ODSP, and who have identified multiple barriers to obtaining employment Fluent in English with proficiency in Arabic or Punjabi an asset.
- Knowledge and experience with Motivational Interviewing, Solution-focused Counselling, and the Common Assessment Tool and/or similar model for conducting intake assessments.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a target-driven outcome-based model; accountable to achieving monthly targets.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a multi-discipline team and community partners to support client and program success.
- Current knowledge of social and community programs and immigration knowledge an asset.
- Proficient in using computer programs for word processing, databases, spreadsheets, e-mail, internet and online meeting platforms (e.g. Zoom, MS Teams). Experience with funders' database information is an asset.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven abilities in planning, multi-tasking, time management and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to self-start and work well independently as well as part of a team.
- Willingness to travel throughout Halton and surrounding areas as required.
