Job Title: Trades Instructor/Assistant Instructor, Electrical

Contract Length: 1 year
Hours of Work: Full-time (35 hours/week)
Schedule: Monday to Friday
Reports To: Skilled Trades Coordinator

The Trades Instructor/Assistant Instructor, Electrical provides theoretical and practical instruction for the Electrical Pre-apprenticeship program.

These are your responsibilities:
Customer Service Skills:
• Committed to student success as demonstrated by exemplary teaching practices and practicing continuous improvement
• Sharing Best Practices in teaching with other instructors
• Taking a team approach to working the Skilled Trades Department – attending all staff meetings, volunteering for additional projects when required
• Communicating efficiently by email on a daily basis with the administrative team

Instructional Skills:
• Responsible for preparing and implementing short-term and long-term lesson plans to meet Ministry curriculum expectations
• Follow adult education principles for student communication and training delivery
• Responsible for all aspects of student assessment and evaluation, including, student reporting
• Promote, teach and practice safety and orderliness on a daily basis
• Monitor and record student attendance
• Ensure that all department documentation is completed in an accurate and timely manner
• Work closely with the program team to strategize toward the common goal of student success
• Adapt instructional strategies and materials according to the individual learning needs of each student
• Ensure all shop tools and equipment are in working order; conduct basic repairs, as needed, or report problems to the Skilled Trades Coordinator

What you need to bring to this job:
Technical/Theoretical Knowledge Required:
• Electrical theory (industrial and/or residential)
• Electrical safety training
• Canadian electrical code
• Installation of various circuit systems and raceways
• Blueprint reading (residential)
• Programmable logic controls (industrial)
• AC motor controls (industrial)

Additional Qualifications:
• Electrician Certificate of Qualifications
• 5+ years of field experience
• Experience teaching in an adult education setting is preferred
• Demonstrated interest and experience in work with adults with barriers to employment
• Certified in First Aid and CPR considered an asset
• Strong problem solving and decision making skills
• Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, listening)
• Intermediate level of computer skills using MS Office 365 (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
• Willingness to travel throughout Halton and Peel regions as required
• Primarily work in Burlington
