Journeypersons and Apprenticeship Trainers Coaching and Mentoring Workshop - Register Today!

Jul 27, 2018

Earlier this year, The Centre launched the Ontario Adult Apprenticeship Program (OAAP), with the support of the Ontario Centre for Workforce Innovation (OCWI).

Through OAAP, The Centre provides hands-on support to apprentices and employers in  the manufacturing and industrial sectors, specifically the Millwrighting, Machining, Industrial Electrical, and Tool and Die trades, with a long term goal of increasing the number of qualified journeypeople.

The Centre also acts as a third-party broker between adult apprenticeship candidates and a consortium of employers; currently, participants in the program are adult students who have participated in The Centre’s pre-apprenticeship programs and are seeking shared apprenticeship opportunities in the industrial sector.

OAAP is currently focusing on supporting mentors and industry employers to help strengthen workplace skills training by offering FREE Journeypersons and Apprenticeship Trainer: Coaching and Mentoring Workshops throughout August and September.

“The journeyperson – apprentice relationship is an integral piece of the apprenticeship process. About 80% of apprenticeship training takes place in the workplace; which means that a only a small piece of the learning happens in a classroom environment; training like this is important and supports building a sustainable workforce for today and tomorrow” says Danielle Scott, Ontario Adult Apprenticeship Program Lead at The Centre.

Upon successful completion of this training workshop, participants will receive a certificate of participation, and will be able to demonstrate the ability to apply strategies to assist with learning and teaching skills in the workplace.

Journeypersons and Apprenticeship Trainers who are looking to provide or currently providing apprenticeship training can register to attend the workshop here.
