Centre for Skills Awarded Government Contract to Support Skilled Newcomers in Trades

Burlington, ON — Centre for Skills is pleased to announce the launch of a new project, funded by the Government of Canada’s Foreign Credential Recognition Program, which will deliver free support services to skilled newcomers pursuing certification in Canada’s skilled trades.

This fully funded program will assist internationally trained tradespeople in navigating the credential recognition process and beginning the path toward Canadian certification

The initiative supports the labour market integration of skilled newcomers by simplifying the credential recognition process, providing access to support services, and helping individuals gain their first Canadian work experience in their field. It also promotes interprovincial labour mobility through collaboration among provinces, territories, and partners.

“We’re excited to help talented professionals gain recognition for the skills they bring to Canada,” said Ellen Faraday, Senior Program Manager.

About the Program

The program is open to newcomers with international post-secondary education, and training or experience in the trades who want to work in the skilled trades in Canada. It provides personalized guidance and resources to help participants:

  • Understand the Canadian credential recognition process
  • Navigate the pathway to certification or licensure in their trade
  • Access support services like career coaching, job readiness, and mentorship
