Why In-Person English Classes Still Win

March 30, 2026 Newcomers Marcella Jager

Learning English is easier than ever. You can practice vocabulary on your phone with several popular apps, practice pronunciation with lessons on YouTube, and join virtual classes from your couch. That’s great, but when it comes to improving your English, in-person classes can have even a bigger advantage for your English learning and your social life!

Research shows that students tend to be more engaged in face-to-face classes. You can’t turn your camera and microphone off. You are forced to engage using English and this is as close as it gets to what is considered the ideal learning environment for language which is real-life experiences!

Besides improving reading and writing skills, in-person learning is especially helpful for speaking and listening skills. You get to practice real conversations and receive immediate feedback from your instructor and your classmates sitting beside you.

Being a newcomer is not easy. It can be a lonely experience, and when you stay at home, you can feel out of touch with the world and start to feel isolated. With in-person learning, you can meet newcomers like you and practice English together. This helps build more confidence in real-life interactions and possibly build a new group of friends!

Online learning can still be useful for some, so here at Centre for Skills, we will still provide online classes in the evening. But for many students, nothing beats the energy of a real classroom and making new friends. Centre for Skills will now offer all their daytime LINC classes in-person so join us today!
