The Opportunity

Job Title: Accounting Assistant
Department: Finance
Location: Virtual / On-site in Burlington
Contract Length: May 4, 2026 to June 26, 2026 (8 weeks)
Schedule: Full-time (35 hours per week)
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm
Reports To: Controller
Salary: $17.60 per hour
Reason for Vacancy: Current Open Position

These are your responsibilities:

Accounts Payable
Liaise with coordinators/managers to ensure accurate authorization and compliance with Purchase Order Policy

Reconcile supplier statements on a timely basis
Ensure a Purchase Order (PO) is created for all purchases made with our main office credit card

Accounts Receivables
Issue invoices for tenants, room rentals and other services
Prepare bank deposit entries

Journal Entries
Prepare journal entries for all admin expenses within all Centre for Skills programs

Reconciliations
Complete bank statement reconciliation monthly

Cheque Run
Mail cheques to pay vendors and staff every three weeks

Process Mileage
Review staff mileage requests, including verifying account number and proper authorization

Administration
Maintain Accounts Payable records, including filing and archiving

Other administrative duties as required

What you bring to this job: 

-Under Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) guidelines, to be eligible, applicants must:
-Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of their summer job.
-Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the job.
-Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
-Ability to work independently and as part of a team
-Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
-Flexible, adaptable and detail-oriented
-Proficient with MS Office: Excel and Outlook and working knowledge of virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom
-Experience using QuickBooks will be considered an asset
-Past experience in a similar role will be considered an asset
