Enhanced Language Training for Entrepreneurs
Centre for Skills offers specialized language training for newcomers preparing to enter the Canadian workplace.
This 12-week on-line course is designed to improve English language skills for newcomers who are starting their own business in Canada.
This program is for you if:
- You are looking for start your own home-based or small-scale entrepreneurship by improving English communication, business literacy and entrepreneurial skills.
- You want an orientation to the Canadian small business culture.
- You want to learn about branding, marketing and customer service for small businesses in Canada.
The Enhanced Language Training program is run by a OCELT certified instructor who will teach classes as well as provide one-on-one assistance. The program will also provide you with access to networking connections and professional mentorships.
EVENING CLASSES
JANUARY 5, 2026
Monday to Thursday:
4:00 pm – 6:30 PM – Independent study
6:30 PM to 9:00 PM – Zoom class
Friday:
Independent study, Assignments,
Workshops, 1:1 instruction available
The program will cover:
- Business planning: goals, target customers, niche identification
- Branding and simple marketing
- Social media for business
- Customer service & soft skills
- Effective communication styles
- Market research (finding a gap, analyzing competition)
- Negotiating skills
- Preparing budgets
- Presentation skills
- Small business vocabulary
- Pricing strategies for small businesses
- Record-keeping basics
- Understanding government policies, licenses and regulations

Eligibility
- Must have a valid and up to date CLB skill level assessment 4/5 +
(if you do not have this, we can book an assessment for you) - Adult immigrants (18+) who are residents of Ontario
- Permanent residents and convention refugees
Program Details
- Enhanced Language Training is a full time, 12-week program for Permanent Residents and Convention Refugees.
- This program is considered to be a full-time commitment. In order to complete all required assignments and activities successfully, we do not advise taking other courses or working during your daytime or evening course hours.
- For all our online classes, learners are expected to use a computer or laptop with a functional camera turned on during class.
