Tandet Group is currently seeking a Senior Driver Mentor to join our Hamilton team. 

The ideal candidate will be someone who has a proven track record as a commercial vehicle truck driver coupled with training/instructional skills to develop new recruits as well as existing drivers. The Senior Mentors are always open to further training on equipment and product lines that they may have not had experience with previously. The desire to keep learning and the desire to teach others are both key traits of a Senior Mentor. 

The primary function of the Senior Driver Mentor is to train operators on the safe and effective loading and unloading of their commodities. Throughout this process, the Mentor will also further train new hires on Isaac use and safe driving practices along with administrative duties with regards to paperwork and expectations from the company. 

The individual selected for this position will be directly involved with training new hires and existing drivers with respect to product stewardship, efficiency, and performance. In addition, the Driver Trainer will conduct safety training according to Tandet’s well-defined training program for drivers. Through follow-up and coaching, the Senior Driver Mentor will be an advocate for the required professional behaviors and expectations set forth by Tandet. 

Responsibilities: 

    • Audit driver logs 
    • Commence each day addressing proper pre-trip inspections (DVIR’s) 
    • Teach new hires how to manage E-Log conflicts, log error correction and the importance of making sure logs are signed daily. 
    • Take corrective action with drivers to eliminate and prevent violations while maintaining documentation of training and corrective action 
    • Train drivers to load and unload following established SOP’s and safety guidelines 
    • Provide remedial training to drivers as needed post incident 
    • Provide coaching on any areas that need attention and have driver sign off 
    • Conduct periodic road tests if requested by Safety 
    • Help maintain the driver handbook as needed 
    • Monitor driver product handling performance and provide coaching / corrective action 
    • Document progress at time of review 
    • Participate in yard “blitz” safety programs to promote compliance awareness concerning: CT-PAT, Pre/Post Inspections/E Log compliance /Safe Ergonomics/truck binders and DVIR 
    • Identify to management any trainees that are not responding to coaching / corrective actions 
    • Participate in the development of training materials for new initiatives, equipment or regulations 
    • Participate in Driver Safety meetings and proactive training initiatives 
    • Work with JHSC to help address any safety concerns from the field if requested 

Qualifications: 

    • Positive attitude and ability to teach with patience 
    • Understanding of Tandet’s commitments to professionalism, reliability and safety 
    • Ability to follow established SOP’s for product handling 
    • Team player with an ability to take initiative and identify and/or recommend process/service improvements to management 
    • Sense of accountability and responsibility 
    • Ability to be flexible in adjusting to changing work priorities 
    • Ability to lead, coach and motivate 
    • Ability to adhere to all corporate policies and act as an advocate concerning these policies 
    • Proven time management skills 
    • Holds a valid AZ license 
    • Clean Drivers Abstract and CVOR 
    • Bulk Tanker Experience is preferred. 

Certifications: 

    • Successful security check and reference verification

Schedule: Monday to Friday, hours subject to trainees schedule therefore flexibility is required for start times

Included: Tandet company pick-up truck for work use only – vehicle cannot be taken home
