is non-profit, charitable organization with a long and distinguished history of providing high-quality early learning and child are services to children and families throughout Toronto, York and Peel Regions. The company is seeking to hire a Cook to join their team.

 

Job Description:

 

Reporting to the Centre Supervisor the Cook is responsible for planning and preparing meals that are healthy and nutritious to
be served in the child care centre and associated satellite programs. All food preparation is in accordance with Public Health standards, Canada Food Guide, Early Years Act (CCEYA), municipal and regional by-laws and Family Day’s Policies and procedures.  The Cook is also responsible for lunch clean up and coordination of the child care centre laundry.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and prepare nutritional meals in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), in consultation with the Centre Supervisor.
  • Prepare suitable menu substitutions for children with allergies and individual dietary requirements
  • Ensure adequate supplies are available to meet daily menu plan requirements
  • Purchase weekly groceries according to the menu plan in a cost-effective manner
  • Prepare and serve daily lunches and snacks for children enrolled both at child care centre and associated satellite programs
  • Regularly order food, cleaning supplies and paper products each month in consultation with the centre supervisor to
    ensure the centre is stocked as required
  • Operate and maintain kitchen according to Public Health inspection requirements
  • Ability to incorporate light housekeeping duties in daily routines

 Education and Experience Required:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Food Handling and Preparation
  • Prior experience preparing meals in a business or institutional setting will be an asset
  • Understanding and working knowledge of current Public Health Guidelines and Canadian Food Guide
  • Experience in cooking for large groups
  • Excellent communication and written skills
  • Ability to work productivity in a team environment
  • Social and multicultural sensitivity
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a vehicle.
  • Medical required – including TB (two stages) 6 months current to hiring date
  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check 6 months current to hiring date
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR, level C
  • Able to work Monday to Friday
